Why this is required

It’s not optional. It’s the law of the work.

Any firm paid to disturb more than six square feet of interior paint in homes or child-occupied facilities built before 1978 must hold Lead-Safe firm certification before it advertises for, or performs, the work.

Federal penalties reach$37,500per violation, per day — assessed cumulatively until you’re certified.

Questions

Straight answers.

What does it cost?

$429 total in EPA-administered states — our $129 service fee plus the EPA's $300 filing fee, which goes directly to the government. State-run programs (NC, WI, DE, WA) carry their own fee, so your exact total appears the moment you select your state. No hidden or recurring charges.

How long does it take?

We typically submit within one business day. Certifications are generally issued within about one to two weeks, after which your certificate is emailed to you. You can track progress any time on the status page.

Does my firm need a Certified Renovator?

To perform RRP work, yes — your firm must have at least one Certified Renovator, who completes a separate one-day (8-hour) accredited course. Firm certification (what we handle) and the individual renovator credential are two different things. The four state-run programs we serve require you to name a certified renovator at filing.

What information do you need?

Your firm legal name, EIN (employer identification number), business address, and an authorized contact. For state-run programs we also collect your certified renovator’s details and certificate. We never ask for a Social Security number.

How long is it valid, and how does renewal work?

EPA firm certification is valid for five years; state programs vary (Delaware and Washington up to five years, Wisconsin four years, North Carolina renews annually). We send a renewal reminder before expiry so your certification never lapses unnoticed.

What’s your refund policy?

If we haven’t yet submitted your application, our $129 service fee is fully refundable. The government filing fee is non-refundable once submitted, as it’s paid directly to the issuing authority. If we’re unable to file for you, you receive a full refund.

Are you the EPA?

No. LeadSafe Filing is an independent document-filing service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or any state agency, and we are not a law firm. We prepare and submit your filing as your authorized agent.
